The Horne Section, May 2019
The Horne Section are a musical-comedy band, led by Alex Horne. The members include Alex Horne, Ben Reynolds (drums), Ed Sheldrake (keys), Joe Auckland (trumpet/banjo), Mark Brown (saxophone/guitar) and Will Collier (bass), with former member Joe Stilgoe (keys).
The band wrote the theme for Taskmaster.
Members of the band have made appearances on Taskmaster. In series 4 episode 3 ('Hollowing Out A Baguette'), Mark and Joe made an appearance in the live task, playing their song titled 'Midnight' to accompany the task. In series 9 episode 8 ('Shaqinahat'), Mark played the theme with Jo Brand singing her version of the theme with added lyrics. Series 10 episode 10 ('Dog Meat Trifle') featured a karaoke task that involved a song written by Will, entitled 'Somebody You Trust'. In series 15 episode 2 ('Trapped in a loveless marriage'), every Horne Section member makes an appearance in the task where contestants have to make something that looks like this musician's musical instrument. Frankie Boyle was paired with Ben, Ivo Graham with Mark, Jenny Eclair with Joe, Kiell Smith-Bynoe with Ed, and Mae Martin with Will.
In their 2019 tour show That's How I Like My Tour, there was a section in which the band would play the Taskmaster theme, and two audience members would have to compete live in the task: 'Wearing a blindfold at all times, completely unwrap a loo-roll inner tube, then place the loo-roll inner tube on the loo-roll holder that has been dipped in Marmite. Fastest wins'.
